DESCRIPTION:October 24\, 2019 @ 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm \nArch Street Meeting House\, 320 Arch St\, Philadelphia\, PA 19106 \nJoin Solebury Meeting member Taiya Smith for our first Friends in Fellowship this fall. Taiya leads the nonprofit Climate Leadership Council’s China Program where she works with governments and corporations to speed up the adoption of a meaningful price on carbon. Specifically\, the council is focused on getting a carbon dividend established in the United States. Concurrently\, Smith is CEO of Phyllis Technologies\, a start up company that creates an independent assessment of carbon emissions at the facility level. Previously\, Smith worked in the private sector advising clean technology companies wishing to gain access to Chinese markets. \nWorking with the U.S. Government\, she served as Deputy Chief of Staff and the principal adviser to Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson on the U.S.-China relationship. She was the key force behind designing and managing the U.S.-China Strategic Economic Dialogue. In this capacity\, she established the U.S.-China Ten Year Framework on Energy and the Environment and the EcoPartnership program\, both of which served as the platform for U.S.-China cooperation on climate change. She also served as special assistant to Deputy Secretary of State Robert B. DESCRIPTION:The annual Simple Meal will feature the organization: New Mornings Reentry Services. Our speaker will be Mr. Bill Shaw. This group helps former inmates enter back into society. We will be taking a collection for them.\n\nDavid Watkins will speak about Helen Corson and her ties to Lincoln University. Peace and Social Justice Committee is working on sponsoring Upward Bound\, which is a mentoring system that helps local high school students prepare for a post secondary education. He will provide more information about this group\, that lines up closely with the ideals and efforts that Helen would have supported.\n\nWe will be taking a collection for UNICEF (including spare change!) Gail and Erica Newbold will be handing out boxes for the children\, and will have them available for anyone who cares to collect. Doug Myers is kind enough to collect and count the change.\n\nFollowing our speakers and Children’s First Day School will be our traditional lunch of delicious homemade soup\, bread and fruit. We hope you can join us.
