Friends:
Some of you may have heard of the Heartbleed Bug, which is a vulnerability in the software that many companies and firms commonly use for internet security. Rest assured that using tools made available through the very competent communications team at Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, I have been able to confirm that WesternQuarterQuakers.org is not currently affected by this security problem. Yet, as the Yearly Meeting’s Web Manager, Naman Hampton, puts it: “That being said, this is a major security vulnerability that could potentially effect other websites that you use outside your work… It’s important that you be aware of it for your own personal data and privacy protection.” Lastly, our web hosting team, Pegasus Technologies, has advised folks to be on the look out for what is called a “phishing scam”. This is when you receive emails, “claiming to be from popular websites
with links asking you to ‘click here’ to reset your password.” Pegasus expects many fraudulent emails like this to begin circulating. They recommend: “Instead of clicking on links in emails, open your web browser and manually visit the site by typing in its address or using your Favorites list.”
