Rethink Poverty – Poverty Simulation
Kennett Area Community Service and others bring to our communities a chance to learn about poverty.
We are writing to personally invite you and your networks to a powerful event designed to deepen our community’s understanding of the challenges of poverty. On Friday, October 17th, from 10 AM to 1 PM, several Chester County organizations, including KACS, will be co-hosting a Poverty Simulation at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Coatesville.
This interactive experience is more than just a presentation; it’s a chance to walk in someone else’s shoes. Participants take on the roles of families, making difficult, real-world decisions about how to budget limited resources and navigate complex systems. Meanwhile, volunteers staff crucial community stations, from banks and schools to employers, seeing firsthand how systemic barriers impact daily life.
The simulation’s impact is transformative. It fosters empathy and a deeper perspective on the difficult choices many families face—like having to choose between paying rent, buying food, or getting necessary medication. For elected officials, social leaders, and faith community members, this is an invaluable opportunity to:
- Gain firsthand insight into the daily struggles of your constituents and community members.
- Identify systemic barriers and understand how policies directly affect people’s lives.
- Connect with other leaders dedicated to finding collaborative solutions to poverty.
We would like to encourage you to participate and to share this invitation within your network. This event is free and open to all, but registration is required. By coming together, we can learn, reflect, and take meaningful action to build a more supportive community.
