Human Trafficking – Updates in Delaware

March 12, 2015 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Presentation by Abigal Layton, Delaware Deputy Attorney General      (see flyer here)

Abigail Layton is currently the Commander of the Child Predator Task Force, a statewide Task Force designed to combat technologically facilitated crimes against children. Ms. Layton is a graduate of Gettysburg College and Villanova University School of Law. She has served as a Deputy Attorney General with the Delaware Department of Justice for 8 years. Layton played a significant role in writing landmark legislation that was passed in May 2014 by the Delaware Senate, in June 2014 by the Delaware House of Representatives, and which was signed into law by Governor Jack Markell on June 30, 2014. Delaware now stands with the states of New Jersey and Washington as the only three states in the U.S. to receive the top rating by The Polaris Project for laws that combat and prosecute human traffickers and protect the victims of forced sexual and labor servitude. This event is co-sponsored by St. Elizabeth Ann Seton’s Peace and Justice Committee, Newark Friends Meeting, as well as individuals who are working to end human trafficking in Delaware, including Carolyn Haon, Dorothy Medeiros, Janet Lafferty, and others.
