The 2014 Thread Gathering for  Friends who are active in the ministry of caring for others in our community.

Now is the time to: 

Pastoral Care Thread Gathering

This Thread Gathering is an opportunity for spiritual grounding and skills development for Friends who care for our community.

  • Saturday, January 25, 9:30-3:30 (gather and register beginning at 9:00)
  • Mullica Hill Meeting, 2 Woodstown Road, Mullica Hill, NJ, 08062
  • Childcare provided with pre-registration
  • A very simple lunch is offered; participants round out the meal with potluck dishes

 

Workshops include: 

Pastoral Care & Issues of Race & Privilege   with Ellen Deacon, Chestnut Hill Meeting 

This workshop will explore the impact of white privilege and institutional racism on Friends from a pastoral care perspective with an emphasis on ways these societal influences inhibit the growth of a diverse meeting community.
Nurturing The Gifts of the Spirit 

with George Schaefer, PYM Care & Aging Coordinator 

This workshop will explore the role of pastoral care in nurturing the vitality of meeting through the discernment of gifts.  It will look at practical ways to understand our differing journeys with the goal of helping Friends to grow in the Spirit.
Faithfulness in the Face of Controversy  

with Erik Pedersen, Schuylkill Meeting 

This workshop will explore how a meeting might face controversial issues such as same sex marriage, abortion and even cutting down a beloved old tree while remaining to its call to inclusiveness and unity.
Clearness for Marriage  

with Ruth Peterson, Abington Meeting 

This workshop will explore the way a meeting extends its loving care to those wishes to be wed under the care of the meeting through clearness for the couple and care attention to the meeting for worship for marriage.
