Dear Zac,
This issue of the PYM Pastoral Care Threadletter presents articles focusing on caring for our Young Adult Friends. Young adults (18 – 35 years of age) have unique pastoral care needs and concerns. As Friends providing pastoral care, it is important that we learn to respond to these concerns by engaging with young adult Friends in the life of the Spirit. The articles below offer several perspectives on this process.
Peace be with you,
George Schaefer
Care and Aging Coordinator

Staying Connected to Our Young Adult Friends:
A Pastoral Care Perspective
As the result of concern among the wider meeting membership regarding the spiritual welfare, and the physical whereabouts of our young adult members, Care and Counsel began a year-long focused effort to connect to every one of our young adult members ages 21- 30.
Our intention was to reach out and maintain contact individually. While our young members were having adventures, in school, traveling the world and starting careers and even families, we wanted about what they were doing and we wanted them know to know the Meeting valued them. Share in our exploration.

Caring for Young Adult Friends
Monthly meetings all over the United States value attracting Young Adult Friends (YAFs) who fall between the ages of 18 and 35 – and they find many challenges
in keeping them engaged in the life of the meeting. A Friend draws on her experience of attending a variety of meetings as a young adult to share some experiences
and tips that may help meetings foster relationships
with YAFs.

Staying Connected with Young Adult Friends
by Deborah Shaw
Where are the Advices that help a meeting support young adult Friends’ spiritual development? Where are the queries and advices that address the time of life when all that one has been taught as a child comes into question? It might be that young adults are not becoming members because we are not preparing them for that role.
