October 2016 Quarterly Meeting

Western Quarterly Meeting in October is hosted by Kendal Monthly Meeting Friends.
Robin Mohr, of Friends World Committee for Consultation will present the morning program: We Think We Are Separate.

Saturday, October 15, 2016
9:00 am In the Main Center at Kendal (1100 E. Baltimore Pike)

We Think We’re Separate — When we think about all the things we don’t want to be associated with, whether that is disease or child abuse or war, we think that we are separate. We are afraid of being connected. We construct walls in our minds and our hearts to convince ourselves that it’s not us, it’s not our problem, that we are separate, up until the day we can no longer pretend, until we find out it is us. “They” are us. Humans try to pretend it’s not us, that we’re separate. But God, Jesus, Quakers—all teach us that we are not separate.

Lunch* and fellowship will follow.

July 2016 Quarterly Meeting

Reaching Out and Reaching In for the Light in times of Darkness: Spiritual Listening

How do we respond to Friends in need?
As individuals?
As a Meeting?

How many of us  expect an honest answer when we ask “How are you?” How  many would be prepared for an honest answer that wasn’t “fine”? In the Religious Society of Friends we rely on each other for pastoral care. This July QM program will allow us to better understand what that means, and lead us to explore ways in which we become stronger care-communities, and how we can “listen each other into wholeness.”  Worship and breaks will be integrated into the adult program; a children’s program will run concurrently, and we will all gather for lunch (provided by our hosts).

Schedule:
9:00 am check in
9:15-10:30 am Program part 1
10:30-11:30 Worship & queries
11:30 – 12:30 Program part 2 & singing
12:30-1:15 pm Lunch (provided!!)
1:15-2:30 Meeting for Business

Children ages K-8 will join the Quarter’s new Youth Activities Coordinator, Christian Garber, for a morning full of fun activities. Childcare for the very young can also be provided — please rsvp to youth@westernquarterquakers.org

Calling all Friends to join together for an inter-visitation & Meeting for Worship at 10:30 am, at Mill Creek Friends Meeting.

Mill Creek is one of the smallest Monthly Meetings in Western Quarter, and our goal for this Sunday in July is to fill the benches with bodies, and the room with our Gathered Spirit.
